Small flock of Mallards on the Middle Branch of the Root River about 5 miles west of Chatfield, Mn.
They have probably been here all winter-sorry, not a sign of spring.

We have seen many turkeys out working the corn fields in the last week.

This male Purple Finch posed for its photo yesterday just outside our living room window.  They will leave us for up north when/if spring arrives.

Better shot of the female Purple Finch.

They know it is not hunting season.

Winter is getting long for the wildlife.  The pheasants are coming up to our bird feeders more often as the winter drags on.

We have had 6 Purple Finches at the feeder almost daily for the last two months.( Male in front, female in back.)

We just checked 5 Bald Eagle nests in the western 1/3 of Fillmore County for activity.  One had an adult sitting low in the nest(eggs???).  One had an adult close by the nest (photo above).  The other three had no adults near or on the nests yet. We will check the nest from time to time.

The deer have been quite active lately.   We still have 6-12 inches of snow on the ground and feeding has become more difficult as the winter drags on.
