Male Purple Finch.  As the winter deepens we are seeing more Purple Finches at our feeder-usually more females than males.

Iced in Mississippi.  Even in the winter the big river is still impressive.

Trumpeter Swans on the Mississippi south of Lansing, Iowa.  The discharge from a power plant keeps the river open there.

Male Hairy Woodpecker.  Only the males have a spot of red on the head.

Female Purple Finch.  Had about 1/2 a dozen show up at the feeders yesterday.
