Male Hairy Woodpecker.  The red at the back of the head indicates that this is a male.

Male Downy Woodpecker.  The Downy is about 1/2 the size of the Hairy and has a shorter beak compared to its head size than a Hairy.

Pine Siskin.  Pine Siskins are Goldfinch sized birds that come down from up north to spend the winter with us.  They also often hang around the feeders with the Goldfinches.

Several thousand Tundra Swans on the Mississippi today just south of Brownsville, Mn.

Saw about 40 Bald Eagles today on our trip to the Mississippi.

Sandhill Cranes on a grey cold day in the backwaters of the Mississippi near New Albin, Iowa.  There are about 200 Tundra Swans just south of Brownsville, Mn-the big push is yet to come.
