Red-spotted Purple.  Unmowed ditches, like the one we found this butterfly in, have become very important to the reproduction of butterflies.

Red-spotted Purple butterfly-they seem to be in a constant search for minerals as we find them most often on gravel and dog scat.

Tiger Swallowtail on White Clover.  The lawn care companies and chemical outfits will tell you this  

" weed" should go-not if you like butterflies.  In a 15 minute walk thru white clover on our lawn I saw 7 species of butterflies and numerous bee species.  A "clean" lawn may look good but provides no food for most of natures wonders. We do not even mow for a while the white clover is in bloom.

The wing design of dragonflies is quite impressive.

Yellow Lady's Slipper, Hayden Prairie.  The woodland lady's bloom in late May while the prairie lady's bloom in early June and are usually a bit smaller.

Common Yellowthroat on our little prairie today.  He was keeping a close eye on me-must have been close to their nest.
