TUNDRA SWANS HAVE BEGUN THEIR MIGATION.

Tundra Swan migration on the Mississippi South of Brownsville, Mn.  We saw several thousand swans on yesterday.  They are moving early this year, perhaps due to the cold late October.   To view more photos, go the right and down and click on October 2020.

Tundra Swan in all its glory.

The Mallard in between the swans gives a good size comparison.

Tundra Swans and Wood Ducks.  The gray swan on the right is a youngster.

The swans eat the roots of plants like Arrowroot to fuel up for their flight to their wintering ground on the East coast.

Female Hairy Woodpecker eating sunflower seeds.  A male would have a little red on the back of the head.  The smaller, but very similar, Downy Woodpecker has also been at our feeders today.

Junco.  Good numbers of Junco's have come down from the north and many will spend the winter with us.

A few Fox Sparrows, Many Chickadee's, and White-throated Sparrows also around the feeder today.  The Chickadee's are with us year around, and the other two will soon head south for the winter.

Unusual colored sunset a few nights ago-probably due to all the dust in the air from soybean picking.

Tiger Salamander.  Found this one in the garage and moved it to a safer location.  Many fall into window wells and die-if you have a window well check it and save an interesting creature.  Salamanders and snakes are moving now and too many get killed on the roadways.

White-throated Sparrow feeding on Giant Ragweed.

Orange-crowned Warbler??  Our old Peterson Bird Guide calls the Warblers that pass through headed South this time of year the "Confusing Fall Warblers".  Found this one feeding in our Giant Ragweed and it is confusing.
