Painted Turtles craning their necks to watch us better.  If we get to close they will jump into the water for safety.  We kept our distance.

Screech Owl and  its prey, a Deer Mouse.  When hunting is good the owl's will eat only the high energy brain.  We have seen Screech Owls do this before.  Many years ago Bobbie's father, Harry, Had a pair of Screech Owls hunting in his back yard.  They would bring the mice to his cement patio and commence to eat only the brains.  We have heard Screech Owls several times over the past two week and are confident that this is one of their kills.   The photo of the owl was taken in our old barn a few years ago.
