Tiger Swallowtails.  Male(top), and black phased female.  Both are old and quite beat up.  We have only seen about 10% as many Swallowtails as we see in a normal summer.

The Pelican migration has begun along the Mississippi.

A freshly emerged Monarch.  If you blow this photo up you will see that the wings look somewhat crimpled.  When a Monarch emerges from the chrysalis its wings are folded to its body, and must be pumped up with fluid.  The wings on this one are not quite totally pumped up yet.

 Meadowhawk dragonfly.

 Damselfly.

 Leopard frog.

 Grasshopper.

Newly emerged Cicada(top), and adult Cicada.  Cicadas make a high pitched buzzing sound on hot days in the late summer.  To view more photos go to the the right and click on August 2022 or any other month and year desired.

Giant Swallowtail.  Only the third one we have seen this year-way below average.

Touch-me-not flower.  So named not because it is dangerous to touch, but because the seedpods eject the seeds out when touched.
